Shawn Lennon
Mr. Shawn Lennon is currently Acting Deputy Chief Financial Officer for the Department of War. He is the principal advisor to the DCFO on financial management policy, financial reporting, financial statement audit, and the risk management and internal control program. He advises all DoW functional areas on audit remediation and financial management best practices to improve the accuracy and transparency of our financial reports. He also chairs the Other Defense Organization Financial Operations governance forum to drive meaningful and substantial results across the fourth estate.
Prior to this role, Mr. Lennon served as the Deputy Director, Finance (J8) for the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) managing the agency’s $50 billion budget and the Director, Financial Improvement and Audit Remediation leading the financial statement audits and the Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements No. 18 Examination for Service Owned Items in DLA Custody. He led DLA to its first ever unmodified (clean) audit opinion on the National Defense Stockpile Transaction Fund financial statements.
Prior to DLA, he served as the Deputy Director for the Revolving Funds Directorate within the Office of the Under Secretary of War (Comptroller) where he was responsible for leading the budget and execution of DoW Revolving Funds; developing and issuing budget policy; and improving processes and controls. As a New Jersey native, Mr. Lennon started his government service with CECOM as a Department of the Army intern. He has served as a budget analyst, staff accountant, and then as Director, Army Working Capital Fund (AWCF) Audit Readiness with the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Financial Management & Comptroller). He began the first financial statement audit for the AWCF in fiscal year 2017.
Mr. Lennon is a graduate of the Defense Comptrollership Program, class of 2011, from Syracuse University. He received the LTC Thomas P. Belkofer Award for highest grade point average and the Leonard F. Keenan Award for Distinguished Service. He holds a Level III DoD Financial Management Certification and Certified Defense Financial Manager - Acquisition and is a member of the Washington Chapter of the Society of Defense Financial Managers (SDFM).
